Presented by the Alliance For Full Acceptance, an LGBTQ+ advocacy organization based in Charleston, SC, in partnership with The Fenway Institute, Whitman-Walker, and others.

 

This two-day virtual event is designed for healthcare professionals, academics, community advocates and anyone who wants to expand their understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual (LGBTQ+) communities and their unique needs.

 

  • Presentations and panel discussions from leading experts in the field of LGBTQ+ health
  • Learn about the latest research, best practices, and advocacy efforts in areas of HIV/AIDS, mental health, transgender health, and more
  • Get up-to-date information on the coordinated legislative attack on LGBTQ+ rights and access to healthcare happening across the U.S.
  • Identify strategies for addressing the health disparities that exist for the LGBTQ+ population and learn how you can be a part of creating change for this community

  • Supporting the Health and Well-being of Rural LGBTQ Adults

  • Best Practices in Care for LGBTQ+ Elders

  • Primary and Preventative Health Needs for Transgender People

  • Understanding the Intersex experience

  • Gender-Affirming Surgery for Adults: Where are We Now and Where are We Going?

  • Current Legislative Efforts to Limit Access to Care

 

Speakers & Topics Include:

 

  • Elle Lett, PhD (she/her), a Black feminist statistician-epidemiologist and transdisciplinary scholar, will speak on Health Equity Tourism
  • Garrard Conley, MFA (he/him), author of the acclaimed memoir Boy Erased, will speak on radical compassion after growing up in a fundamentalist household and surviving a conversion therapy program
  • Cecilia Hardacker, MSN, RN (she/ella), Director of Education at Howard Brown Health, will speak on the experiences of LGBTQ+ elders and best practices in a primary care setting
  • Sean Saifa Wall (he/him), a Black intersex and transgender activist known as the co-founder of Intersex Justice Project, will speak on Embodiment for Every Body and the experiences of intersex people
  • Blair Peters, MD (he/they), a double fellowship-trained board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in gender-affirming surgery, will speak on Gender-Affirming Surgery for Adults: Where are We Now and Where are We Going?
